towels23
It doesn’t matter how old your kids get, there is nothing like wrapping your arms around them with a nice soft towel when they get out of the pool. My little 8-year-old son is always ready to snuggle, but especially when he gets out of the cold water! Somehow, crawling up on Mom or Dad’s lawn chair in the sun is way more fun than staying in the pool and playing water games. I think these moments will stay with me forever, even as he and my daughter grow up.

For my daughter, the idea of a warm towel in the sun is something a little more like growing up. She wraps herself up like a little lady and walks around like she’s queen of the pool. As she continues to grow each day, I love seeing these little flashes of her future life as a woman and knowing I was there to enjoy every second along the way.

So what’s a great towel got to do with all of this? For some reason, the cheap versions you find in dollar stores and other discounted places don’t give you that same level of comfort. Thick, soft towels are more than just an investment–it’s a feeling of love and security you wrap your loved ones in every time you use them. These are memories you’re making and not just times when they need to dry off.

If you’re able to spend some time looking for just the right towels, they will be around for a long time and you won’t have to make another purchase again for a while. This is why shopping for towels is not something you should do on a without checking out your options. See what’s available, what fits in your budget and then go with the best you can afford. You’ll love the feeling they give you and your family alike!

Charles Barkley

When Charles Barkley was an NBA player, he gained a reputation for being one of the most aggressive players in history – both on and off the court. On the court, at 6’4” he was the shortest player in NBA history to lead the league in rebounds. Off the court, he was arrested more than one time for his post-game shenanigans, including the time he threw a man through a plate-glass window.

Given his reputation, it’s a little surprising that Miami Heat fans had the audacity to throw their towels at his head during a live recording of TNT’s Inside the NBA. The crowd was packed full of towel-twirling fans doing their best to drown-out Barkley’s praise for the Chicago Bulls. Ironically, he was in the middle of complimenting the Heat’s two star players, LeBron James and Dwayne Wade, when a towel hit him in the back of the head. It was the second time a flying towel had hit him or come close to hitting him, and this time Barkley had had enough.

Like a mother scolding naughty children, he whirled around in his seat and told the crowd, “Hey! Hey! Don’t make me come over there. Don’t make me come over there, now. ‘Cause if I come over there, it’s gonna be hell to pay!”

Another TNT commentator, Kenny “the Jet” Smith, quickly added, “And I’ll come with you, Chuck.” The Jet is another retired NBA player who’s normally known as Barkley’s “straight man.”

The towel-throwing incident wasn’t the first run-in Barley had with Heat fans. The day before, as Barkley headed inside the arena, the crowd started to chant at him, “No rings!”, presumably pointing out that for all Barkley’s fame, he never won a championship game for any of his teams. Barkley told the press he found the “no rings” comment amusing.

“I always laugh at that statement, ‘You didn’t get a ring,’” said Barkley. “I’m like, dude, you work at McDonald’s. My life’s a lot better than yours. You relax.”

It all goes to show that you never know what kind of situation an innocent towel can find itself in.

Towel Exercises

Want to take your workouts up a notch? Consider adding a towel. No, not the kind of towel you carry around with you to wipe off the sweat; use towels in creative, simple ways that don’t even require you to leave the living room. Here are three towel exercises you can do at home with a regular bath towel.

1. The Standing Twist

Twists are a good way to build the strength of your core muscles. Add a towel for even better results. Begin by holding the towel in front of you, a little wider than your shoulders. Pull on the ends of the towel and twist slowly from right to left as you do so. Pulling on the towel works your upper body, keeps your posture upright, and puts your shoulders into alignment as you do the exercise.

2. Tricep Extensions

Start this exercise by putting one hand in the small of your back, grasping your towel with your palm facing out. With your other hand, grab the other end of the towel and bring your elbow up, pointed at about a ninety-degree angle at the level of your ear. The towel is behind your back, as if you were going to dry your back off after a shower. Now, simply pull with both hands; you are using the towel as your resistance or weight.

3. Towel Squats

Squats are one of the most classic quad exercises of all. As with your standing twist, you grip the towel at either end, a little wider than your shoulders. Hold the towel in front of you as you squat down to workout your legs. The towel will make your posture correct and strengthen your upper back muscles as you tone your quads.

All three of these exercises are simple ones that you can do at work or at home to keep your body moving and start working out your muscles.

towels

According to Douglas Adams, author of the incredibly successful “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” series of sci-fi/fantasy books, a towel is the most important item that a galactic traveler could ever carry around with him.

In his books, Adams lists the many and varied uses to which towels can be put, and, although most of us don’t have to battle Ravenous Bugblatter Beasts of Traal on a daily basis, we can surely think of at least ten practical situations that could instantly be improved should towels be introduced into the equation. Although towels – along with fine bathrobes and bath mats – are usually found in bathrooms, there’s no rule saying that they have to stay there, and the congenial towel is also known for its appearance in the kitchen (the oven towel), next to the pool (the awesomely absorbent chamois sports towel) and on the beach (the common-or-garden beach towel).

Towels are popping up in all sorts of strange places these days, and, while Japan gives us the exotic oshibori wet towel – used to wet one’s hands before eating – England offers the traditional tea towel, which dries cooking implements in the kitchen. Specific types of towels have also been developed for specific parts of the body, and foot towels and hand towels are common examples of these types of towels.

Monogrammed towels – where the towel-owner has made his or her ownership of a particular rectangular piece of absorbent fabric obvious by embroidering his or her initials on it – are no longer the domain of only the rich and famous, and, these days, anyone who buys a towel can choose to have it so personalized. Bath robes can also be monogrammed, but, as towels generally run a larger risk of getting lost among general bathroom laundry, monogramming seems to work better for towels than bathrobes.

Those who worship towels should mark every May 25th on their calendars: this is when Adams’ Towel Day is celebrated and also when every wannabe galactic hitchhiker carries their favorite – and oh so useful! – towel around with them.

towels

Winter is just around the corner – in some parts of the country it’s already arrived – and that means two important things: it’s hard to get out of that nice, warm, cozy bed, and it’s also hard to finish that nice, hot shower and face the chilling blast of cold air when you open the shower door.

One trick you can use to mitigate the pain of stepping out of the shower is to use a heated towel rack. Place your towel and/or your bathrobe on the heated towel rack, and turn it on before you step into the shower. By the time your shower is done, your towel and your bathrobe will already be toasty.

On the high-end of heated towel racks, some devices have as many as 10 bars, so both your towel and your bathrobe have enough contact with the towel rack to make it plenty warm for you. Other devices are a little less expensive, but have fewer rails for your towel and bathrobe.

With a heated towel rack, you can change your attitude towards ending your hot shower in the dead of the winter. Instead of stepping out of the shower only to be greeted by goose bumps and chattering teeth, you’ll step into a warm towel and a warm bathrobe.

Organic Towels

As our world evolves, the environment has become one of the number one concerns of its human inhabitants. These days you can buy eco friendly shopping bags, clothing, cleaning supplies, cosmetics, bath towels and more. Eco friendly bath towels have become more and more popular as a way to dry wet bodies and relax in comfort, but still be kind to the environment.

What is an eco friendly bath towel? It’s a towel made without the harmful chemicals used in standard towels. They are products made from fibers raised without pesticides and artificial fertilizers. Certified combed organic cotton towels are a good example of such products.

When washing these towels, make sure to stick to an eco friendly washing routine, as well. There are various organic laundry detergents available on the markets that are free of harmful chemicals. Do not use fabric softeners or bleaches. And consider removing your towels from the washing machine, shaking them and then hanging them to dry under the sun. If not, stick your towels in the dryer on a low setting.

There are numerous ways to decorate a guest bathroom. One way is with monogrammed towels. These towels are popular as wedding gifts, but consider purchasing them for your own bathrooms.

Choose towels based on your color scheme and design. If your guest bathroom is mostly black, with a dash of red, perhaps your choice is red towels to pull out the color red. If your guest bathroom is a soft pink, you’ll want to stick with a soft pink color scheme.

Then choose your letters. You can now begin to get creative. For example, for a guest bathroom of Jenny and Tom Smith, choose “S,” the first letter of the last name. A single letter on each towel is an attractive monogram. Or, how about the first letters of Jenny and Tom, along with the letter S. This is the standard three letter combination for a married couple.

Which letter goes on what side? In today’s modern world, there are no hard and fast rules. But the traditional way is for the man’s first initial to go on the left, the woman’s first initial to go on the right and the first initial of the last name to go in the middle.

There are many different letter styles to choose from. Some are traditional with that old world flavor. Others are hip and ultra modern. Letters should fall on the bottom middle of your hand towel or bath towel. Choose the color of the letters to match properly with your towels. A red towel in a black bathroom would look great with black lettering, for example.

london

If you’re planning on spending time in a London budget hotel, you might want to bring your own towel. In the same spirit as budget airlines, where anything more than your little bag of eight peanuts will cost you at least five bucks, one particular London budget hotel now has a fee for everything – even your towel.

Tune Hotel Westminster is located just 30 feet from a Tube station. You can make your way to Buckingham Palace in 10 minutes; Oxford Circus is a mere five stops away. Rates start at $54, and peak at $99 – what a deal!

However, for $54, you get one of the rooms without any windows. The room is also incredibly small, with barely enough room to open up your suitcase on the floor.

The other catch is that you pay extra for everything. $2.40 per day. Feel like relaxing with an English soap opera at the end of a day of sightseeing? It will cost you almost $5 every day that you activate the television. Oh, and don’t worry about the housekeeper walking in at an awkward time; you have to pay $12 just to get a housekeeper to show up more often than once every three days. Forget a free continental breakfast; Tune Hotel offers great breakfast, but it’s $7.

Could this be the hotel trend of the future? Perhaps budget hotels, like budget airlines, will start expecting you to always bring your own towel, and that $2.40 per towel rate might even seem cheap in a few more years.

India which is the second largest exporter in cotton and cotton products such as towels, bathrobes and bath linens is getting a pressure from textile producers. They claim that the increase in demand for cotton already passed the supply and they are afraid of not having enough raw materials for themselves.

Therefore, they put pressure on the government in imposing an export ban on textile, however Indian government already imposed a partial ban but sector representatives are not happy. They say they are having hard times to get enough raw materials for their productions, and they would like from government to impose a ban entirely on export.

seals need towels

Save a Seal with a Towel.

A wildlife center in the UK is asking for towels, especially big towels, to use for sick and injured seals. The particular wildlife center, the RSPCA East Winch Wildlife Centre of Norfolk, England, cares for 50 seals and nearly three hundred other animals.

What will the big bath towels and beach towels be used for? The staff wraps the seals in the towels to make them easier to handle and to provide warmth for the animal.

Unfortunately, the wildlife center recently announced that they’re going through a shortage of towels at the moment, a problem which is reaching crisis proportions. As of September 21, 2010, the center is caring for 21 seals in their intensive care unit. With such a high level of care, the center is going through an astonishing 120 towels per day.

If you live in the UK, you can drop your new or used towel off at a nearby Tesco. If you live outside the UK, send a towel or two to:

Towels

Cotton towels are a wonderful inexpensive gift choice to make for every type of special occasion. Today, the extra-soft Egyptian cotton bathroom accessories are made into a wide variety of colorful hues that can harmonize nicely with all styles of bathrooms. While it is true that cotton towels are manufactured by many different global providers, it is always wise to choose the thick Egyptian cotton towels for your gift giving needs.

The Egyptian cotton towels are different from other types of bath towels.

Egyptian cotton is grown in the fertile soils that are found alongside of the Nile River. This superior farming location offers cotton plants the right combination of soil nutrients and sunshine to produce an extremely soft selection of high-quality cotton fibers. When the Egyptian cotton fibers are woven into cotton towels, terry bathrobes, and other personal care bathroom accessories, the results are products that feel luxurious.

The humidity factor along the Nile River in Egypt helps the cotton plants to obtain fiber lengths that are often much longer and broader than the cotton that is grown in other locations. The Egyptian cotton fibers can reach over two-inches in length that makes them the ideal choice to spin into very fine threads for the higher-quality manufacturing projects. Egyptian cotton towels hold a very strong weave due to the nature of the fibers.

Traditionally, the Egyptian cotton towels were only made in a natural white color. Monogrammed initials were used to decorate these elegant feeling bath accessories in the wealthy homes where these soft and durable towels were used. Today, with a globally attentive audience to market for, the Egyptian cotton manufacturers are dying their towels into very fashionable decorator tones that can still be monogrammed to show status.

Elegant Egyptian cotton monogrammed towels make the perfect inexpensive gifts for family members, friends, and coworkers. In today’s health conscious society, the gift of a high-quality monogrammed towel set can go a very long ways. People take their soft Egyptian cotton towels and terry robes to the gym to show them off, they carry their own luxury towels on business trips, and these long-life Egyptian cotton products are always enjoyed in the home. For the price, it is hard to find a better multi-purpose gift idea.
